WEIGHTLESS TRAVELLER, 2016 (excerpt) – HD video, 2 channel audio, 7:14 min

In Simon Speiser's short story of the same name, WEIGHTLESS TRAVELLER, the interplay of vibrations is conceived as the body of a transforming extraterrestrial collective consciousness, which traverses the voids of outer space.

The interplay of vibrations as a common characteristic of time-based media is the conceptual basis for and the starting point of this collaboration. WEIGHTLESS TRAVELLER examines vibrations as the invisible basis of every process of embodiment and identification.

The video WEIGHTLESS TRAVELLER departs from an abstract drawing by Simon Speiser, which dissolves into water. The height of visible waves, the stretching and tearing of the submerged drawing, the movement of the reflections, the flickering of the fluorescent tube, the pausing of the waves, amplitude fluctuations of different layers within audible sound surfaces, the sequence of low-pitched speech fragments, sounds of breathing and bubbling water – the interlocking of all these movement sequences and the overlapping of their regularities form Filip Caranica’s audiovisual blueprint of WEIGHTLESS TRAVELLER.
